has officially declared the start of the rainy season in the country on Monday.
now its our time to protect ourselves and our kids to this unavoidable season.
And SMCM Batch 1991 is here to provide you some tips in order for us and the kids
fight rainy days and prevent us from fever and flu and diseases like leptospirosis and dengue.
1. Take vitamin C before you leave home
As the saying goes, prevention is always better than finding a cure. When
we encounter heavy rains, no matter how big our umbrella is,
we will inevitably get wet which can lead to sickness. Taking vitamin C
will help boost our immune system especially against diseases such as colds,
cough and the dreaded flu.
2. Make sure that your cellular phone is fully charged
The worst that could happen is for you to get stuck in a
flooded area where you don’t know anyone and you have no way
of communicating with your family and friends. To avoid this
dangerous scenario, make sure that you charge your cellular phone
before you leave home since you never know if you might get stuck
some place due to the heavy rains. Aside from this, make sure that
you have the complete phone numbers of your family members and close
friends just in case you need to get in touch with them.
3. Bring food and water with you
Always make sure to bring bottled water and food such as biscuits or crackers
just in case you will need to wait out a few hours before going home.
4. Bring a small bottle of alcohol
There are times when you will have no choice but to wade through the flood
and as we all know, flooded waters carry with it much diseases. Thus,
it would be good for you to disinfect and clean your feet and legs as
soon as you reach dry land. As soon as you reach home, do not delay and
immediately take a bath but pay special attention to the areas that were
submerged in flood water. We have already seen several horror stories of
people having to have their legs amputated because of water borne diseases
that afflicted them due to the floods. It is also highly advisable not to
cross flooded streets if your feet or legs have open wounds as these are
natural entry points for diseases.
5. Be extra careful and conscious when walking through dark areas
During the rainy season, many of us hurry to reach the comforts of
our home but if we are not careful, we might not get there. Take the
case of a student who died a few years ago because he accidentally
stepped on a live electric cable on his way home at the height of a
typhoon. This is the reason why one should be extra conscious in looking
around our surroundings before crossing dark areas. It is always better
to be safe than sorry.
6. Always bring a small towel and an extra shirt
During this rainy season, you will never know when you might
be stranded in school or at a friend’s house. Always bring
a small towel and an extra shirt. Getting wet in the rain can
lead to colds if we don’t change into dry clothes.
7. Be informed
In this Internet generation, there are now many websites that report
on the flood situation in certain areas. Before leaving home or school,
take note of the areas that you need to avoid. Do your friends a nice
favor by sharing this information with all of them.
I hope that these small practical suggestions can help all of you get
through this rainy season unscathed. Let us remember that is always better to be prepared for
the rainy day.
Hope that this post help you in anyway! If you have some information to add just put it bellow comment box!
